Kubera's Lineage and Residence
Kubera is the son of the sage Vishrava (son of Pulastya) and his first wife Ilavida — making him the half-brother of Ravana (who was born of Vishrava's second wife Kaikesi). Despite this family connection, Kubera and Ravana were bitter enemies: Ravana conquered Lanka (which had originally been Kubera's city) and stole Kubera's divine aerial vehicle, the Pushpaka Vimana. Kubera's residence is on Mount Kailasa — the sacred mountain of Lord Shiva — in the city of Alaka, surrounded by his Yaksha attendants and the nine divine treasures.
